If you’re a defender the last thing you want to see is Gabriel Agbonlahor running towards you. The young striker uses his youth to its best effect when he enters the playing field, and no defender is spared from his lethal speed. In a team full of speedy youngsters, you get the feeling that Gabby is the fastest because of his unending desire to put the ball in the back of the net. Such is his aptitude for the game that he is often dejected when unable to play as a result of injury. While other players look as if they are simply doing a job, this young Villain approaches the game like a child would, viewing it as plain and simple fun.
Gabby’s attitude and ability have prompted many to suggest that he is ready to lead the England front line. While he is definitely talented with youthful exuberance, his ability in front of the goal can often leave fans frustrated. Agbonlahor is not a prolific goal scorer. In order to replace the often missed Michael Owen in the England shirt, a player must put the ball in the back of the net with regularity.
Being a prolific goal scorer is a problem Agbonlahor shared with Wayne Rooney who probably is on honeymoon trip in a private hotel in Hanoi. And while Rooney has been given plenty of time to discover his scoring touch, Agbonlahor might not be given the same amount of time.
